A large natural lip balm buys you two things a small one can't: enough product to actually use generously, and a formula simple enough to put anywhere skin gets dry. The Balm is 30g, roughly seven times a standard stick, made from nine natural ingredients, and it lasts most people about a year.

Nine ingredients, each one doing a job
There's no filler in it. No water, no fragrance, no flavour, no artificial preservatives, no petrochemicals. What is in there:
- Beeswax. Forms a breathable protective barrier over the skin. I'm still hunting for a UK supply.
- Shea butter. From Ghanaian women's cooperatives, the same networks I worked with in my Body Shop days.
- Raspberry seed oil. In at a meaningful 6%, rich in antioxidants and vitamin A.
- Cocoa and mango butter. Richness and softness without the grease.
- Jojoba, grapeseed, sunflower and sweet almond oils. Light, conditioning, quick to sink in.
Nine things. You can pronounce all of them.

Natural doesn't have to mean tiny
A lot of natural products are small to the point of useless, as if being clean means being stingy with it. This one isn't. At 30g you get up to 12 months of use from a single stick, it works out at about 80p a gram, and it's a lot less packaging than the half-dozen tubes most people get through in a year.

It goes a lot further than your lips
Because there's no fragrance in it and it's mostly butters and oils, it behaves like a barrier balm rather than a lip-only product. People use it on dry patches on the face, cracked knuckles, cuticles, elbows, heels and wind-battered cheeks.

The finish is semi-matte rather than glossy, which is why it works under lipstick and why people are happy putting it on their face in daylight.
The packaging, honestly
It's plastic, and I'm not going to dress that up. What I will say is that it's a sturdy twist-up stick built to last a year rather than a fortnight, which is the actual environmental argument: one balm replaces roughly seven to twelve small tubes.
The outer sleeve is recyclable cardboard. The tube is a mix of plastics, so it isn't widely recycled at kerbside, though some stores run cosmetic-packaging take-back schemes. I looked hard at aluminium, refillables and paper tubes. Aluminium is energy-intensive, refillables break and leak in practice, and paper tubes usually need a plastic liner anyway. This was the least-bad option, not a perfect one.
What it doesn't do
Worth being straight about the limits.
- No SPF. None of our products contain any. Use a proper sunscreen on exposed skin.
- Not vegan. Beeswax is animal-derived. Everything else in it is plant-based, and it's never tested on animals.
- Not a treatment. It's a cosmetic. It can make dry or eczema-prone skin more comfortable, but it doesn't treat or cure anything. If skin won't settle, that's a GP or pharmacist.
- Not for babies or young children. It's formulated for 16 and up.
- Not for intimate areas. Lips, faces and places. Not those places.

FAQ
How long does a 30g lip balm actually last?
Up to about 12 months with regular daily use. It has a 12-month period-after-opening confirmed by lab testing. A standard 4.25g stick, used the same way, tends to go in four to six weeks.
Is a bigger balm worse value?
The opposite, usually. At £24 for 30g it's about 80p a gram. A standard 4.25g stick at £4.70 is around £1.11 a gram. You're paying less per gram and handling one piece of packaging instead of six.
What makes it "natural"?
The Balm is 100% natural: nine plant and beeswax ingredients, no water, no synthetics, no petrochemicals. Our tinted balms are the same base plus cosmetic pigment, so they are not 100% natural and we don't claim they are.
Is it too big to carry?
It's about the size of a mascara, roughly 8cm tall. It goes in a pocket or a bag without protest. It's also large enough that you stop losing it, which is half the point.
